Brazilian sister and brother Luanda and Pablo Casella delve into an old family scandal, a web of fragmented crime stories. Against the backdrop of racial segregation and a military dictatorship, they become entangled in the frayed edges of an impossible plot, where childish innocence collides with the distorted reality of trauma.
With a great sense of humor and in an atmosphere of mutual complicity, Trouble Score captures the fantastic, mysterious, and often hallucinatory nature of family dynamics. The performance uses magical realism as a tool for transformation: painful experiences are turned into pop songs, coping mechanisms are grotesquely exaggerated, and unhealthy patterns are given the power of healing mantras.
With Trouble Score, Luanda Casella and Pablo Casella, who have been creating together their entire artistic lives, return to the origins of their collaboration: the theater concert. The performance rides on their unique dynamic: arranging layered text, sound samples, and (live) music into a complex composition. A celebration of recovery and a symbol of deep-rooted connection.
