In 'Devī', three dancers from Poernima Dance Company, including choreographer Gobardhan herself, unfold their future vision of the feminine, a concept often seen only in relation to the masculine.

The performance explores this apparent duality between the feminine power, Devī, and the masculine power, Deva. A duality that is merely a surface; these two seemingly opposite forces are essentially one. The masculine and feminine are not separate entities; they are complementary aspects of the same whole, interwoven within ourselves, in society, and in the universe.

Devī invites us to re-examine this duality. Through Gobardhan's contemporary movement language, rooted in Bharata Natyam, the performance opens a path beyond duality, towards the unity of energy and consciousness. The layered musical landscape by composer Jorg Schellekens and musician S.V. Giridhara creates a sound world where the subtle balance that keeps everything alive becomes palpable, a tribute to the power that is both tender and strong, both personal and universal.
