Wainwright Does Weill

Rufus Wainwright and the Metropole Orkest present a grand tribute to Kurt Weill. This tour builds on Wainwright's album I'm a Stranger Here Myself – Wainwright Does Weill, in which he breathes new life into Weill's rich oeuvre with his signature theatricality and emotional depth. Expect an immersive mix of classical music, cabaret, and jazz, featuring timeless works such as Surabaya Johnny, September Song, and Je ne t'aime pas.

Rufus Wainwright

Praised by The New York Times for his "genuine originality," Wainwright is one of the most versatile voices of his generation. He has released ten studio albums, written operas, and collaborated with greats such as Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Sting, and Mark Ronson. His work moves effortlessly between pop, opera, and musical theatre. He has written two operas, composed music for film and television, and released the GRAMMY-nominated album Unfollow the Rules in 2020.

About Lost in the Stars, one of the core pieces of the project, Wainwright says: "The dramatic and troubling message of Lost in the Stars is sadly far too relatable in our day and age, but the music always gives hope."

Metropole Orkest

The Metropole Orkest, internationally recognized as the pop and jazz orchestra, has performed with legends such as Ella Fitzgerald and contemporary stars like Jacob Collier and Snarky Puppy. The orchestra also champions emerging talent, including Laura Mvula, Snarky Puppy, and Michael Kiwanuka, and has a passion for spectacle and experimentation. With more than 150 albums, 24 Grammy nominations, and thousands of radio and television broadcasts, the orchestra continues to push boundaries.

Together, they present a moving, contemporary tribute to Kurt Weill, a composer who, like Wainwright, works at the intersection of high art and popular culture.
