- Movie: Plainclothes
Join us to see the romantic thriller, Plainclothes. Fresh from its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award for its ensemble cast, this film is a must-see.
Starring Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) and the brilliant Russell Tovey (Looking, Years and Years), Plainclothes throws us back into the fraught atmosphere of 1990s New York City. It was a time when police departments actively used undercover officers to entrap and arrest gay men, a dark chapter in our history that still resonates today.
Lucas (Blyth) is a young, ambitious undercover cop assigned to go into queer spaces as bait. His mission is to prove himself to his superiors. But his professional resolve is shattered when he meets Andrew (Tovey). What starts as a target becomes a forbidden, intense connection that forces Lucas to question his identity, his loyalty, and the very system he works for. As the pressure from his precinct mounts, Lucas finds himself trapped in a dangerous double life.
Directed by Carmen Emmi in her feature film debut, Plainclothes has been praised for its raw intensity and complex emotional landscape. It’s a gripping thriller and a poignant look at a painful piece of queer history.
