In Electronic Music and the Present, DJ Lynnée Denise connects music to the people and histories behind it. Together with Zimbabwean DJ Robert Machiri, she takes the audience on a listening experience and open conversation about the role of African electronic music on international dance floors and in Amsterdam's nightlife.

The gathering takes the form of a live listening experience and dialogue between DJ Lynnée Denise and Zimbabwean DJ Robert Machiri. Together, they guide the audience in attentive listening, sonic demonstrations, and an open conversation where music serves as an archive of migration, encounter, and cultural exchange. They invite you not only to listen but also to participate in the conversation about the role of South African electronic music in Amsterdam and its influence on local and international music culture. Come listen, think along, and discover how music connects the past, present, and future.

Radical Space in The Bookshop

This program is part of Radical Space. The Bookshop was once the entrance to the amphitheater's balcony, intended for the 'common people' who paid less for a ticket. This separated these visitors from the wealthy Amsterdammers, directors, mayors, and nobility who were allowed in through the main entrance. This class division is, of course, no longer actively used today. But could it be that the traces of this past still influence the way our society functions? Radical Space aims to break these patterns and commissions creators to engage in a dialogue with our past. Through performances and conversations, they question the class structures within our society.

Black Achievement Month

Black Achievement Month (BAM) is held annually in October. The festival aims to spotlight the exceptional talents of people with African roots. BAM provides a stage for creators, entrepreneurs, scientists, and other influential voices from the Black community. Their achievements are brought to the attention of a wide audience through various activities, including debates, exhibitions, literature collections, workshops, spoken word, theater, dance, music, and film performances that focus on the 'Black Experience.' In doing so, BAM emphasizes not only the cultural richness but also the social and economic value of the Afro-community in the Netherlands – against the historical backdrop of slavery and colonialism.
