During Queer History Month, Huis Willet-Holthuysen opens its doors for a special SFX make-up workshop. Like previous artistic interventions (including those by ANOHNI and House of Vineyard), this special program casts a new and stimulating perspective on the historic canal house. In the SFX Weapons of Mass Seduction workshop by Dorian de Rijk, in collaboration with Aaron Delucoire, we use make-up as a means of expression to make our inner 'monsters' visible and celebrate them.
Dorian de Rijk is a creative director and producer who, with her project Monsters, makes space for what does not yet exist. The common thread in her work is the investigation of (in)visible systems of inclusion and exclusion and how you can still create room to play and experience freedom. Her project Monsters is an arts-based research that explores ambiguity and aims to be an ode to multi-perspectivity.
Aaron Delucoire is a queer SFX make-up artist from Amsterdam. Aaron has been a professional make-up artist since 2018 and has worked with brands like MAC Cosmetics, NYX Cosmetics, and Huda Beauty. He prefers to work with the extreme – boundary-pushing make-up styles. He sees make-up as a way to show that creativity has no gender or limits.
Monsters is a project by interdisciplinary artist Dorian de Rijk. It makes space for what is not yet there, for new experiences. A queer space. Queer History Month is an initiative of IHLIA and takes place every year in the Netherlands in March.
