ART HOUSE 17 presents a flamboyant revue where genres and conventions clash, featuring music from Bach to Sufjan Stevens, alongside dance, clowns, and acrobats in an ode to the beauty of diversity.
On the Baroque opera stage, gender boundaries were surprisingly blurred. Men sang women’s roles, women sang men’s, and castrati sang everything in between. ART HOUSE 17 continues in this vein with a flamboyant revue where genres and conventions cheerfully clash. Music by Bach, Handel, Bertali, Schmelzer, and Vivaldi stands fraternally alongside Sufjan Stevens' Mystery of Love and Somewhere over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz – all played on historical instruments.
The dance is directed by leading Antwerp choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, while the stage action features around 170 members of the inclusive Space Choir and a host of clowns, dancers, and acrobats. This concert format, anything but ordinary, is an ode to the beauty of diversity.
With an introduction by Annelies Andries (19:15 hrs, in Dutch) and a Q&A session (after the concert, in English), both taking place in the Fentener van Vlissingen Foyer (limited capacity). Also live on www.emtv.online.

About the Performers
ĀRT HOUSE 17 is an ensemble conducted by Michael Hell. Besides using historical instruments, the ensemble considers it important to do justice to the broader context in which the music was performed. The central question here is: what does the music have to say today? ĀRT HOUSE 17 has been a guest at the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht several times in recent years with their music theatre performances such as Kaffeekantate and The Crocodile Bar. The ensemble also created the Utrechter Passion during Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2022.
