For Pride Amsterdam 2026 and on the occasion of World Pride, the WearHouse presents a new exhibition as a result of an international open call for jewelry artists. This exhibition will explore the subtle and often unspoken tension between the individual and society. Throughout our lives, we encounter expectations - sometimes imposed, sometimes internalized - about who we should be and how we should live.
These pressures can shape our choices, our appearances, and even our sense of self. They emerge in relation to clothing, wealth, education, gender expression, and sexuality, quietly influencing the roles we perform in everyday life. Jewelry, as an intimate and wearable form of expression, becomes a powerful medium within this context. It exists at the boundary between private and public, hidden and revealed- much like the personal truths we carry. Whether concealed beneath layers or displayed openly, it can signify belonging, resistance, identity, or transformation.
Through this open call, The WearHouse invites the international jewelry community to reflect on these layered experiences: What do we choose to hide, and what do we dare to reveal? How do societal norms shape the way we present ourselves? What is the shape of your own closet? And in what ways can adornment become an act of reclaiming agency, visibility, and authenticity?
The exhibition seeks works that engage with these questions, offering diverse perspectives on the themes of secrecy, expectation, and self-expression. In the spirit of Pride, it aims not only to uncover what has been hidden, but also to celebrate the courage of coming out.
