Join a 5km walk along the paved paths of the Noordhollands Kanaal, starting from the ferry at Central Station. The route includes optional breaks and a possible visit to a cemetery.

The short walk begins at the ferry from CENTRAL station to BUIKSLOTERWEG. We will walk on paved bike paths along the Noordhollands Kanaal. At Café Noorderpark, we can possibly take a short coffee break after 1.5 km; there is only a terrace there!

After 2.5 km, you can take the bus back from IJdoornlaan to Noord metro station, where there are also various food and drink establishments. After this point, there are no more cafes along the canal. So, please bring something to drink and eat.

If there is interest, we will cross the canal via the bridge at IJdoornlaan for a short visit to the De Nieuwe Noorder cemetery and crematorium. www.denieuwenoorder.nl

We will continue along the Noordhollands Kanaal (no more benches along the last part of this route) to the ferry at Het Schouw. From there, we will take the bus back to Noord station or Central Station. The total walk is 5 km. The walking guide is Vital.

Want to be sure the ferry is running? You can sign up for an SMS alert if the ferry is NOT operating. (It's an old ferry from 1980 that occasionally breaks down.) You can sign up at: social-alerts.maptm.nl/pont-schouw/aanmelden/

Optional Concert

Afterwards, you can attend a 'LIGconcert' (lying down concert) at 4:30 PM in Amsterdam Noord at the Buiksloterkerk, Buiksloterkerkpad 10. The Hadewych ensemble from Amsterdam, consisting of 10 women, will sing a cappella. Please bring your own mat, pillow, and possibly a blanket. Doors open at 4:00 PM.
