Podium Mozaïek proudly presents the very first solo exhibition in the Netherlands by the renowned Haitian artist Maksaens Denis. His work, deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural traditions of Haiti, offers a unique perspective on the complexity of the contemporary world.
"Showing this work during Amsterdam Pride and WorldPride is an act of presence. It brings stories, bodies, and dreams from Haiti into a larger conversation about visibility, freedom, and belonging. I hope these works encourage people to see difference not as distance, but as a possibility for connection, empathy, and shared humanity." - Maksaens Denis
Maksaens Denis (1968, Port-au-Prince) is a pioneer in digital and video art in Haiti. He combines traditional Haitian symbols and vodou elements with modern technologies, creating a powerful visual language that is both poetic and politically charged. His installations, videos, and digital paintings explore themes such as identity, migration, spirituality, and the post-colonial condition.
The exhibition at Podium Mozaïek showcases a selection of his most recent works, in which he explores the boundaries between the physical and the digital, the sacred and the profane, and the past and the future. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a world where ancestral rituals and futuristic visions converge.
The exhibition can be visited for free during Podium Mozaïek's opening hours.
