‘This is the century where everything is possible, allowed, and necessary!’ Jos Brink and Frank Sanders sang it back in 1979, in their very first musical, Maskerade. Seven musicals later, they proved to be right: they found great success in a country that was actually ‘too down-to-earth’ for it.
Their repertoire was forgotten. Until now.
After almost 30 years, the work of Jos Brink, Frank Sanders, and Henk Bokkinga can once again be admired in the theater.
In the musical revue ‘The Century Where Anything Is Possible,’ four young performers pay homage to their musicals. They bring the most beautiful songs back to life with song and dance, and take the audience behind the scenes with archival footage, diaries, and costumes.
For the older generation, it's an evening of nostalgia and recognition, and for younger generations, an evening of discovery.
Frank Sanders, who is involved as an artistic advisor, says: “With perseverance, care, and artistic commitment, the team at Productiehuis De Haard has created a special document. A beautiful sketch of years of intensive work in conceiving, creating, performing, and producing original Dutch musicals.”
Productiehuis De Haard is a development place for young, recently graduated theater makers and (musical) actors. De Haard creates small-scale, professional performances where collaboration between performers and creators is central, and gives its performers and makers space to develop and become visible within the cultural field.
