On August 6, 1999, Upstream organized its first tournament. From 1999 to 2004, Upstream organized six tournaments during Amsterdam Pride. Since 2006, Upstream has organized the Valentine's Day Tournament every other year in February. We consistently attract hundreds of participants from the Netherlands and abroad. In 2024, Upstream organized its 10th Valentine's Day Tournament.
The international rules for masters swimming from the KNZB and the international federation FINA apply during the competition. The competition will be led by KNZB referees. Times and records are officially recognized by the KNZB and FINA.
The swim meet is on Saturday afternoon, but there are activities throughout the weekend. These include a warm-up swim on Friday evening, the Valentine's Day Party and dinner on Saturday evening, and a closing brunch on Sunday morning.
