An actress reflecting on her career (Marisa Paredes), a disoriented anthropologist (Naomi Kawase), and two legendary divas (Arielle Dombasle / Myriam Mézières) travel with other strangers through surreal landscapes in a mysterious vehicle from which they seem unable to disembark easily. Along the journey, they speculate about their identities while Desire, Eros, takes form and seduces them.
A liminal journey between life and death, dream and magical reality, in which the phenomenological is not a closed reality. A road movie in the style of Cortázar, the Tibetan Bard, and Jules Cotard. Emergency Exit, by renowned Spanish filmmaker Lluis Miñarro, is a formally audacious and intellectually rigorous work. Set in contemporary urban life, it follows characters navigating personal and social dislocations in a world of uncertainty and constant flux. Through an elliptical, fragmented narrative, the film explores alienation, intimacy, and the search for connection, portraying moments of vulnerability and defiance.
Resisting conventional plot structures, it creates an immersive experience that engages viewers with ethical, social, and emotional dilemmas. A meditation on human resilience and the tension between private and collective life, the film resonates beyond Spain, addressing universal questions of how individuals seek meaning, autonomy, and community amid societal pressures.
The premiere will be followed by a Q&A with director Lluis Miñarro.
