Gerard van Emmerik (1955) is a writer of short stories and novels. He also teaches creative writing and is on the editorial board of Hollands Maandblad. Author Bep Ruting will interview Gerard van Emmerik about his latest book, You Stay. It's a subtle love story about a gay couple in a long-term, stable relationship, until one of them learns he doesn't have long to live. With humor, Van Emmerik masterfully describes the underlying tension that arises when both partners are unable to express themselves to each other.

Our second guest is writer and artist Ted van Lieshout. Bep Ruting will discuss his new book: What have you done to make me happy? In this beautifully designed autobiography, the 70-year-old Ted and the 17-year-old Ted collaborate on a selection from Van Lieshout's life's work for an imaginary retrospective exhibition, revealing their differing tastes. The book explores art, finding one's own style and voice, and reflects on what Van Lieshout has made of his life.
You do not need to have read the books to attend the literary salon. Afterwards, you can purchase the books and have them signed by the authors.
