This raw duet full of dance, mime, and performance art shows how queer desire can take many forms. We get an unfiltered look into the s*x life of artist and creator of A Pelo: Fernando Troya. Full of kinks, BDSM, but also sometimes objectification and oversexualization. Is it inevitable to sometimes cross the line when you're exploring the edges?
A Pelo tells the poignant story that is the prequel to Fernando's award-winning performance 'We play so hard it hurts'. In A Pelo, two bodies become trapped, but while one tries to escape, the other becomes the jailer. On the floor, we see a whole spectrum of masculine intimacy unfold: from violence to tenderness. But what happens when the only way out of captivity runs through each other?
This performance is not here to please you, but to possess you. Until nothing is left but skin, breath, and exhaustion. With A Pelo, Pelo Productions once again aims to add a non-normative story to the cultural landscape, even if it can be a bit uncomfortable for the viewer at times.
Fernando Troya (1989) is a performing artist and director of A Pelo Productions. He is currently supported by ICK Amsterdam. He lives in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and was born in Madrid, Spain. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory for Dance in Madrid (2008) and holds a bachelor's degree in Dance from the María de Ávila Conservatory (2022). His practice as a creator extends into the field of physical theater and performance.
In 2024, Fernando produced and presented 'We play so hard it hurts' at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, with support from ICK Amsterdam, AFK, Norma Fonds, Free Willie, and Club Church, among others. He won the International Bursary Award, which allows the production to currently tour nationally and internationally. Troya also produces independent projects, such as the series 'Reminiscente', a 2.5-year research into Plato's Theory of Forms and the painter Francisco de Goya; 'Essential Rights', which was awarded the BNG Bank Dance Prize in the Netherlands; and 'Withering', a solo performance that has been performed at various festivals around the world and has won awards.
