On this evening, WILD Productions will perform 'Zeikstuk'. A physical theater piece with people and toilets: a theatrical exploration of the smallest room. The discussion about where a trans person should pee keeps coming up. But how do you pee when you are a transgender person, and what do you experience in the wild world of the public toilet? Stories straight from the bowl. 'Zeikstuk' is performed by 23 trans people between the ages of 18 and 70. The performance is subtitled in English. There will be a supporting program around the performance, including a post-show discussion.
During Pride Month, Theater De Generator presents the TRANS weekend: a two-day theater and activism program entirely dedicated to trans lives, trans art, and trans rights. This weekend, we use theater as a weapon for change, as a meeting place, and as a space for imagination.
Pride began as a protest in 1969 during the Stonewall Riots in New York. And for trans people, that protest is more urgent than ever. Our rights are under pressure worldwide. In the Netherlands too, trans people experience violence, bureaucratic hurdles in healthcare, political opposition, and daily micro-aggressions. TRANS is an artistic response to this. TRANS is not an explanatory program. It is not a polite introduction. It is not a debate. It is an invitation to take a stand. Pride is still a protest. And we are not done yet.
