Sexual liberation is incomplete without honest conversations about safety, health and the stigmas we face.
PrEP and DoxyPEP have transformed modern queer sex, but outdated stigmas surrounding HIV/AIDS persist. Meanwhile, there’s a heavy reliance on substances like G or other chems at (sex)parties and leave many of us wondering: How did this become the default path to connection and why does it feel like the only way many of us can be intimate. On the other side of this spectrum, we see a growing movement of queer people embracing sobriety, seeking spaces free from substance use, or even feeling alienated by a culture that can feel overwhelmingly sex-orientated.
During this talk we discuss what we can learn from our past to build safer, more liberated futures. Together with health advocates and community members, we’ll unpack modern prevention tools like PrEP and U=U, practical harm reduction for substance use, and explore how we can overcome shame to reclaim genuine care, pleasure, and safety on our own terms. Step into Q&TC - a space to connect, share, and see the queer community in the multifaceted way as we are meant to be. Join us for an inspiring evening with provoking speakers, performances and an incredible audience (yes, you!). After the talk there will be plenty of time to join the conversation during a Q&A. Speakers, performers and partners to be announced soon.

At a time when queer rights are under pressure worldwide, Queer & the City highlights the indispensable power of queer perspectives. Queer people often develop outside established norms, structures, and systems. They see, move through, and think about the world differently, and know how to challenge normativity in imaginative and hopeful ways. Queer & the City showcases the community’s diversity, resilience, and imagination. Hosted by writer and presenter Sharvin Ramjan, this programme explores themes such as care, migration, sex education, and finding your own subculture. It does not only examine the obstacles that exist, but above all celebrates a sense of togetherness.
