About the Event

Ype Driessen is known as a photo comic and podcast creator. He makes photo comics for his own website, fotostrips.nl, the newspaper Het Parool, and his graphic novel 'Het nadeel van de twijfel' (2020). He can also be heard on his podcast 'De eeuw van de amateur' with Botte Jellema. This year, Ype made his debut with his literary novel 'Vanilla'.

'Vanilla' tells the story of Jip, a boy who moves to Amsterdam with his best friends after his relationship ends. There, he soon meets a mysterious man who promises he will get over his heartbreak if he goes on ten meaningless dates. What follows is an adventure in which Jip learns a lot about himself, but also where a lot is at stake for him.

The queer book club is hosted by Looi van Kessel, a lecturer in literary studies and gender studies at Leiden University, for The Hague Library. The primary language for this meeting is Dutch.
