No costume drama, no men, nobody dies, she is out & proud and yet life for Emma is anything but simple.
Emma has a life-changing meet-cute. She falls head over heels for Levi, an activist film student who knows everything about the world. A world that Emma feels she understands very little of. Soon, Emma loses herself in her own activism. She pushes the people around her away in the name of saving the future, even jeopardizing her relationship with Levi. What is best for the world is not always best for yourself and the people around you. How do we maintain balance? How do we still love in times of change and polarization?
Omelas is based on the short story 'The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas' by Ursula Le Guin, which encourages us to question the unjust world we live in. The power of doubt is therefore central to our play. Isn't polarization also the result of the conviction that there is only one truth?
Collectief FAKT consists of Floor van der Jeugd (actor/creator) & Aska Hayakawa (writer), two women with a clear mission: more abrasive, female, queer representation in film & theater. No costume drama, the characters will not end up with a man, nobody dies at the end, and being queer is not a problem. Based on these rules, they create humorous and socially critical performances. Because, if you're missing something, you just have to make it yourself.
