A warm and inspiring day where everyone is welcome.
Many queer young people hardly feel at home anywhere. Cultural background and sexual identity or preference can make them vulnerable and turn them into outsiders. For many years, they have found a safe home at De Vaillant. During Pride, this strength is brought into the spotlight.
The exhibition Taboe Tabee by BO-Diversity will be shown in The Hague for the first time and will open during this event. This exhibition is aimed at a queer audience looking for representation, and at bicultural and Muslim queer young people with an interest in identity, art, and theatre. The Hague gay men's choir Vox Rosa will provide the opening performance.
Movies That Matter presents the film The Blue Kaftan by Maryam Touzani. Halim and Mina run a caftan shop in Salé, Morocco. In their caring relationship, they share an unspoken understanding about Halim's homosexuality. But the new apprentice Youssef and Mina's illness disrupt their careful balance. Delicate and visually stunning, like the caftan of the title, the film is an ode to love in all its forms. This programme is made possible by Fonds1818.
Voguing is an extravagant form of expression for many, especially non-Western, young people in the LGBTQIA+ community. In The Hague, Jojo Miyake Mugler of Vogue Behind the Dunes is one of the driving forces. Tonight, Jojo organises a runway in the middle of the theatre café. Various performers will showcase their talent. Afterwards, the audience can dance along to music from the DJ.
Throughout the afternoon, there will be a mini queer market, and the theatre's Soup Cart will be serving soup.
