Tammie, a young trans woman, longs for love and a 'normal' life. But in a world full of prejudice, that feels anything but self-evident. She wonders if a future with love, stability, and a family is in the cards for her. In her search for a boyfriend, she talks with other women about dating, relationships, and her own future. Their stories hold up a mirror to Tammie, confronting her with her own beliefs and fears. Why does dating seem so complicated for her? Gradually, Tammie discovers new perspectives on love.
Tammie is a young trans woman who longs for love and a 'normal' life, but in a world full of prejudice, that feels anything but self-evident. As anti-trans sentiments rise and positive representations of trans lives remain rare, she wonders if a future with love, stability, and perhaps even a family is also possible for her. In her search for a boyfriend, Tammie talks with other (trans) women about dating, relationships, rejection, and self-image. She meets women who lead lives she hardly dared to imagine: a loving relationship, a family, or happiness outside of romantic love. As she sees herself in their stories, she is confronted with her own beliefs and fears about love and visibility. 'Tammie is Looking for a Boyfriend' is an intimate documentary about desire, representation, and the search for connection in a society where trans people are too often reduced to stereotypes or a social debate. Through personal conversations, vulnerable moments, and observational scenes, a hopeful portrait emerges of someone who slowly learns to believe that love might be possible for her too.
Following the screening, there will be an aftertalk with creators Tammie Schoots & Lize Korpershoek, moderated by Emma Wijers.
