Galakoor Queer Klassiek presents the special composition 'Exceptional in this World' in Utrecht's Domkerk.

This year, the Netherlands celebrates the 25th anniversary of the legalization of same-sex marriage. On April 1, 2001, the Netherlands became the first country in the world where two people of the same gender could marry. Galakoor Queer Klassiek commemorates this anniversary with a new vocal work by composer Joost Kleppe. The composition reflects on the social significance of marriage equality and places this moment in a broader context of love, diversity, and inclusion.

Galakoor Queer Klassiek will also perform music by Mak (‘For whom I love’), Mozart, Lassus, Andriessen, Bennet, Britten, and Whitacre.

The evening will begin with a thought-provoking statement by Mariecke van den Berg, professor of Religion, Gender, and Sexuality at the School of Religion and Theology at VU Amsterdam. She is an expert in feminist and queer theology.

After the concert, you are welcome to stay for a drink!

Admission is free, but a contribution is requested to help cover the costs. 'Celebrate Love' is an initiative of the Domkerk, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Geertekerk, the Janskerk, and the Nicolaikerk. These church communities have long been committed to openness towards the LHBTIQ+ community. The program is part of the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival.
