A New Sound for a New Chapter

For years, Robin Skinner, known to millions as the indie-pop artist Cavetown, has crafted a unique space in music with his intimate, lo-fi bedroom pop. Now, the 27-year-old singer-songwriter is stepping into a new era with his fourth album, Running With Scissors. The record signals a significant evolution, promising to blend his signature confessional lyricism with fuller, more expansive indie-rock arrangements that are sure to captivate both longtime fans and new listeners.

This new chapter is described as a deep dive into the journey of growing into oneself, a theme that resonates powerfully within the LGBTQ+ community. While his music has always been a source of catharsis, this album marks a deliberate and more sonically ambitious exploration of that journey.

An Unapologetically Queer Record

Running With Scissors is deeply rooted in Skinner's personal identity. As an artist who is openly transgender and on the aromantic and asexual spectrums (aroace), his perspective is woven into the fabric of every track. The album moves beyond simple representation to explore the specific nuances of queer life with raw honesty.

Key tracks highlighted by music critics include:

  • "Baby Spoon": A song that celebrates the quiet, comforting intimacy found in queer relationships, offering a sense of hope and understanding.
  • "Rainbow Gal": An ode to queer joy, this track is about someone who brings vibrant color and light into his world.

The album tackles vulnerability, self-acceptance, and the complex balance between happiness and difficult emotions, solidifying Cavetown's role as a vital voice for a generation of queer youth navigating their own identities.

Coming to the Netherlands!

The exciting news for Dutch fans is that Cavetown is bringing his new music to our shores. As part of the Running With Scissors international tour, he has announced a can't-miss performance.
