AMSTERDAM – Theater Bellevue has announced the latest edition of its "Write Me A Story" project, an initiative that pairs young writers with older members of the community to chronicle their life experiences. This year's theme, 'Queer in alle kleuren' (Queer in All Colors), will focus on capturing the diverse histories of LGBTQ+ seniors.
The project serves a dual purpose: it offers a platform for emerging writers to develop their skills under professional guidance, while also ensuring that the important stories of the older LGBTQ+ generation are preserved and shared with a wider audience. The final narratives will be compiled into a professionally produced booklet.
Call for Participants
Organisers are currently looking for four to five LGBTQ+ individuals aged 65 or older who reside in Amsterdam. To ensure the collection of stories is as diverse as the community itself, the project particularly encourages applications from people of color, transgender individuals, and those who were not born in the Netherlands.
Due to the project's funding structure, participation is limited to residents of the Municipality of Amsterdam.
What to Expect
Those selected to participate will be matched with one or two young writers for an interview in May, which is expected to last approximately 90 minutes. After the interview, the writers will craft a narrative based on the conversation.
The completed stories will be published in a booklet and distributed for free at presentation events scheduled for July and later in the autumn. All participants will receive a copy of the booklet and an invitation to the events.
A short documentary will also be produced to follow the project's journey. A film from a previous edition is available to view for an idea of the project's tone and output.
How to Apply
Individuals interested in sharing their story should contact Zayira Graves (she/her) at Theater Bellevue by 30 April. More detailed information about the project can be provided via email or a phone call.
