The Roze Filmfestival Enschede has announced the initial program for its third edition, scheduled to take place from May 8-10, 2026. A collaboration between local arts centre Concordia and Café Stonewall, the festival aims to present a broad spectrum of LGBTQ+ stories to a wide audience, highlighting the diversity of queer experiences on screen.

The festival's mission, as stated by its organizers, is to showcase narratives that extend beyond common themes of discrimination and rejection, celebrating the full range of LGBTQ+ life. It joins a number of established queer film events in the Netherlands, including the Roze Filmdagen in Amsterdam and the Queer Film Festival Utrecht, contributing to a growing national landscape for community-focused cinema.

Program Highlights: From Modern Dramas to Cult Classics

The 2026 lineup demonstrates a commitment to both contemporary and historical queer cinema. The program is structured to appeal to a variety of tastes, featuring international films, documentaries, and retrospective screenings.

Contemporary International Selections

The festival will screen a number of recent and upcoming international films. Notable titles include:

  • Layla: A British film blending drama, comedy, and romance.
  • Big Boys: A comedy-drama exploring new relationships.
  • Maspalomas: A Spanish-language drama.
  • La Petite Dernière: A French and Arabic-language drama.
  • Just Kids: A documentary offering a non-fiction perspective.

Retrospective Screenings

A significant part of the program is dedicated to celebrating influential films from the history of queer cinema. These screenings provide context and an opportunity to see foundational works on the big screen.

  • Bound (1996): The stylish neo-noir thriller from the Wachowski sisters.
  • My Beautiful Laundrette (1985): Stephen Frears' classic British film about race, class, and sexuality in Thatcher-era London.
  • Pink Flamingos (1972): John Waters' infamous and rebellious cult film, a landmark of transgressive cinema.

More Than Movies: Community Events

Organizers have also planned several events to foster a sense of community around the screenings. The festival will launch with a Grande Opening & Film Departures event. Other scheduled activities include a Pride Comedy night and an After Borrel, providing social spaces for attendees to connect and discuss the films.

The full schedule and ticket information for the Roze Filmfestival Enschede will be released closer to the event dates. The festival is open to all members of the public.
