Amsterdam Venue Opens Stage for WorldPride Programming

AMSTERDAM – Plein Theater is offering a platform to new and established LGBTQ+ creators as part of its official programming for WorldPride 2026. The Amsterdam-Oost venue has issued an open call for eight productions to be featured during the Pride month of July 2026, coinciding with the city's hosting of the global event.

The theatre, known for its year-round queer programming, is seeking proposals that explore themes relevant to the community, including gender identity, the body, freedom, community, and expression. The call is open to a range of disciplines, from theater and dance to performance art and contemporary music, or a hybrid of these forms.

Opportunity for Artists

The call is open to both existing works and advanced works-in-progress that are deemed artistically urgent and suitable for the theatre's intimate setting. The eight selected proposals will be integrated into the venue's July 2026 schedule.

Plein Theater will provide the selected artists and productions with a comprehensive support package. This includes:

  • A guaranteed performance date on one of the following days: 10, 12, 22, 23, 24, 26, 29, or 31 July 2026.
  • Full technical support within their theatre space.
  • An open bar and professional audience reception services.
  • Promotion through the theatre's official agenda and social media channels.

Submission Guidelines

Artists interested in this opportunity are asked to submit a proposal that meets several key criteria. The theatre requires a concise, one-page (A4) proposal that clearly outlines the concept and its suitability for a small-scale venue. A crucial element is that the work must have a clear and sincere connection to the context of Pride.

Financially, the arrangement is a 70/30 box office revenue split, with the larger share going to the artist or performing group.

How to Apply

Proposals should include a short description of the project, any available visual materials (such as photos or video links), and a list of technical requirements. Submissions must be sent via email before the deadline.

  • Deadline: 5 May 2025 (Note: The year is not specified in the original call but is assumed based on the 2026 performance dates).
  • Email: programmering@plein-theater.nl
  • Subject Line: Pride maand
