'Big Mistakes' to Return for Season 2

Netflix has officially renewed Big Mistakes, the dark-comedy thriller from creator and star Dan Levy, for a second season. The announcement comes as part of a broader deal that extends Levy's creative partnership with the streaming service, granting Netflix a first-look option on his future series projects.

Levy, who became a household name for his Emmy-winning work on Schitt's Creek, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the series. "Very grateful and beyond excited to continue the Big Mistakes adventure and my creative collaboration with Netflix," he said in a statement. "Season 2 is already in the works, and it’s going to be wild. I can’t wait to get it out there to everyone as soon as humanly possible.”

What is 'Big Mistakes' About?

The first season introduced viewers to Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega), a pair of dysfunctional siblings who find themselves entangled in the world of organized crime. Their misadventures begin with a clumsy attempt to steal money for their dying grandmother, a decision that spirals into a series of dangerous and often absurd assignments from a local crime syndicate. The series balances high-stakes thriller elements with the signature character-driven, witty humor that has become Levy's trademark.

The first season featured a strong ensemble cast, including Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, and Elizabeth Perkins. While plot details for the second season have not yet been released, the core story of two people wildly unequipped for a life of crime is set to continue.

Levy's Growing Role at Netflix

The renewal and extended partnership solidify Dan Levy's position as a key creator for Netflix. His work has resonated strongly with audiences on the platform, beginning with the global success of Schitt's Creek, which found a massive international following after its arrival on the service.

More recently, Levy wrote, directed, and starred in the 2024 Netflix film Good Grief, a drama exploring love and loss. He also appeared in the final season of the popular series Sex Education. This new first-look deal suggests Netflix is keen to remain the home for his future television projects.

Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Vice President of Comedy Series, commented on the partnership: "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Dan and to bring more of his wonderfully funny and compelling stories to life. Big Mistakes is the most recent example of Dan’s singular voice and vision connecting with audiences around the world. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for Season 2.”

Production for the second season is slated to take place in New Jersey. No release date has been announced at this time.
