DRONTEN – The annual pop-up family camping event, Camping de Paradijsvogel ('The Bird of Paradise'), has announced its return for a fifth year, scheduled to take place from August 10-14, 2026, in Dronten. The event is specifically organized for LGBTQ+ youth and their parents, providing a dedicated environment for connection and self-expression.

Organized by Moeder enzo, the camp aims to create an inclusive atmosphere where young people can explore their identity and meet peers in a setting free from judgment. According to the organizers, the goal is to provide a place where LGBTQ+ youth are not the 'odd one out' and where parents can connect with other families who share similar experiences. A parent or guardian is required to attend with their child.

A Community-Focused Approach

A key feature of Camping de Paradijsvogel is its layout. All attendees camp together on a single, dedicated field with its own sanitary facilities and a shared kitchen. This design is intended to foster a strong sense of community and make it easier for children who may have social anxiety to participate and connect with others at their own pace.

The shared kitchen includes refrigerators, a kettle, and a coffee maker for communal use. While attendees are asked to bring their own plates and cutlery, the setup encourages shared meals and interaction.

Activities and Program

While the full schedule is still in development, organizers have confirmed that several popular activities will return in 2026. These include a communal pancake night, a music quiz, the 'Werewolves' game, and a celebratory catwalk. The program is designed to offer a balance of structured events and free time for families to relax and connect.

Booking and Accommodation Information

Families can choose between a short stay of two nights or a full midweek stay of four nights.

  • 2-Night Stay: Arrival Monday, August 10 - Departure Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
  • 4-Night Midweek: Arrival Monday, August 10 - Departure Friday, August 14, 2026.

There are several accommodation options available:

  • Own Tent: The standard option, included in the base per-person price.
  • Own Camper/Caravan: A small surcharge applies for vehicles up to 6.5 meters in length.
  • Rented Retro Caravan: A limited number of 2-person caravans are available for rent. This is a separate booking in addition to the per-person camping fee.
  • Rented Sleeping Wagon: Basic sleeping wagons for 4-6 people are also available to rent separately. These do not have internal power but provide beds.

Important to Note:

  • The camp maintains a strict no-dogs and no-drugs policy.
  • Alcohol consumption is restricted to personal camping spots and not permitted in the central communal area.
  • Bookings are considered final after a confirmation email is sent by the organizers. Cancellation policies apply.
