IJmuiden to Host Double Jubilee Event

COC Kennemerland has officially launched its search for a musical artist to represent the region in the 2026 COC Songfestival. The local chapter earned the right to host the national event after their candidate, Marco Edam, secured victory in the previous competition.

The 30th edition of the festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Haventheater in IJmuiden. The event holds particular significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of COC Kennemerland, marking a double jubilee for the organization and the community it serves.

The organization is now inviting singers, songwriters, and groups to submit an original song with an LGBTQ+ theme for consideration. The selected act will perform on behalf of the host region, competing against representatives from COC chapters across the country for the coveted trophy.

Submission Guidelines

Artists interested in representing COC Kennemerland must adhere to the following rules:

  • Originality: The song must feature original lyrics. While original music is strongly preferred, existing melodies may be used, though artists are responsible for any copyright implications.
  • Duration: The performance must not exceed four minutes.
  • Live Vocals: All vocals, including any backing vocals, must be performed live. No pre-recorded vocals are permitted on the backing track.
  • Group Size: On-stage performers are limited to a maximum of six people.
  • Eligibility: The song cannot have been performed in a previous COC Songfestival final.
  • Judging Criteria: Entries will be evaluated based on their LGBTQ+ theme, vocal quality, on-stage performance, lyrics, and musical composition.

How to Apply

The deadline for submissions is 8:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Applications must include an MP3 file of the song, details of the artist(s) and songwriter(s), and a brief motivation of no more than 150 words. Submissions should be sent via email to the COC Kennemerland board at ijmond@coc-kennemerland.nl, addressed to M. Hillebrink.

The selected entry will be announced on June 20, 2026. All participants should be aware that soundchecks will take place during the day on October 24, requiring availability from the afternoon onwards.

About the COC Songfestival

The COC Songfestival was established to provide a creative platform for LGBTQ+ artists and to encourage the creation of music that reflects the community's stories and values. The annual event brings together talent from across the Netherlands, fostering both competition and a sense of national community.
