This summer, Amsterdam's Eye Filmmuseum will present "Queer Power," an extensive program dedicated to celebrating international queer cinema. Running for a full month, the series will feature a curated selection of films, talks, and events that explore the vitality and breadth of LGBTQ+ storytelling on screen.
The program includes 35 titles, mixing classics with contemporary works from a variety of countries and cultures. According to the museum, the focus is on showcasing narratives of "queer joy, queer love, queer humour and the power of uncensored self-expression." The selection spans multiple genres, from comedy and drama to experimental films and upbeat manifestos, offering a wide lens on the queer experience.
Beyond the film screenings, "Queer Power" will host several notable events. A key highlight includes a lecture on trans embodiment by renowned American academic Professor Jack Halberstam. The series also features collaborations with established local organizations, including Roze Filmdagen, Kaboom Animation Festival, and the Lesbische Liga, grounding the international program within the Dutch community. Additional themed evenings will explore the history of queer Amsterdam and the use of "queer coding" in film.
