A new initiative in Gouda is set to provide a dedicated space for parents and close relatives of transgender children to navigate the intersection of family, gender identity, and Christian faith. The peer-led discussion group aims to address the personal and theological questions that can arise for families within a church context.
The group, led by fellow parents Lydia Roosendaal and Mart van de Kamp, is designed to be a supportive environment for sharing experiences. Discussions will centre on personal feelings, questions about how to reconcile faith with a child's transition, and other related topics. This creates a forum for a conversation that is often difficult to have within traditional church structures.
While the initiative is based in Gouda and primarily targets parents from the Zuid-Holland and Utrecht provinces, the organisers stress that attendees from any region or church background are welcome. The goal is to foster mutual support among those with shared experiences.
The first meeting is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, 8 October 2026, at De Veste in Gouda.
