Roze Filmdagen, the Amsterdam LGBTQ+ Film Festival, is approaching a significant milestone: its 30th edition in 2027. In preparation, the festival has put out a call to its community, asking visitors to contribute to an archive of personal stories and experiences from over the years.
The initiative aims to document the festival's impact on individuals and the broader queer community in the Netherlands. Organisers are looking for everything from cherished memories and formative experiences to the films that have left a lasting impression. "Whether it's your first experience or if you have many editions behind you - we are curious about your story!" the festival states.
What kind of stories are they looking for?
Through an online form, the festival invites people to reflect on their time at Roze Filmdagen. The questions are designed to capture a wide range of perspectives:
- What are your most fun or even absurd experiences during the festival?
- Which films have stayed with you the most?
- Has Roze Filmdagen contributed to your personal (queer) experience and development?
- What makes the festival unique and important for the community?
For nearly three decades, Roze Filmdagen has been a key event in the Dutch queer cultural calendar, offering a platform for LGBTQ+ stories on the big screen. This project seeks to document the personal side of that history, focusing on the community that has brought the festival to life year after year.
