Queer and allied students from secondary (VO) and vocational (MBO) schools across the country will have a dedicated space to connect and learn at the upcoming GSA Community Day. The national event, organized by the GSA Network, is scheduled to take place in Amersfoort on Saturday, November 14, from 11:30 to 17:00.
Formerly known as the GSA Congress, the day is designed as a central meeting point for young LGBTQ+ individuals. The program aims to blend community building with practical skills, offering attendees opportunities to learn how to foster more inclusive environments within their own schools. Participation is open to all, regardless of whether they are officially involved with a Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA).
A Packed and Varied Program
The day will kick off with a complimentary vegetarian lunch, followed by an official opening featuring a drag performance and a Queer History Quiz. The core of the event consists of two workshop rounds, allowing students to choose sessions that align with their interests.
The workshops cover a wide spectrum of topics. Creative sessions will include arts & crafts, writing, and an introduction to vogue dancing. For those interested in discussion and personal development, other workshops will focus on subjects like sexual development and the principles of creating safer spaces for queer individuals. The full workshop schedule and registration details will be released on the GSA Network's Instagram account.
The day will conclude with a final gathering featuring a theatre performance and a group session of Queer Line Dancing, providing a celebratory end to the event.
Support for Educators and Allies
The GSA Community Day also includes a dedicated program for GSA supervisors and teachers. In a session facilitated by COC Nederland, these mentors can connect with their peers from other schools to exchange ideas, share challenges, and discuss best practices for supporting their students. Organizers extend a warm welcome to supervisors who wish to accompany their students.
The event's structure is designed to be flexible, accommodating both those who wish to actively participate in every session and those who prefer a more relaxed approach, such as exploring the information stands from various queer organizations.
