Amsterdam-Oost will soon be home to a new, dedicated meeting place for the local LGBTQ+ community. Starting November 12, Queer Hub Oost will open its doors at the Q-Factory, offering a bi-weekly evening for connection, conversation, and community activities.

A 'Rainbow Living Room' with Soup

Organised by Alle Kleuren Oost, the initiative aims to create a "rainbow living room"—a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for queer individuals in the district. The evenings are scheduled for every other Thursday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Each event will kick off at 7:00 PM with 'Samen Soep' (Soup Together), where attendees can share a meal of freshly made soup and bread. From 8:00 PM, the focus will shift to a rotating program of activities designed to foster creativity and social connection.

Initial Schedule

The schedule for the first few weeks has been set to give a taste of what the hub will offer:

  • November 12: The inaugural evening will be a casual meet-up, with a focus on introductions and community building.
  • November 26: A relaxed film night is planned for attendees to enjoy a movie together.
  • December 10: Attendees can explore their creative side during a dedicated workshop.

From Political Initiative to Community Space

The creation of Queer Hub Oost follows a proposal from the Oost district committee. In February, committee members Marie-José Kleene (VVD) and Merel Talbi (GroenLinks) successfully advocated for a low-threshold meeting place, a need that was confirmed during an expert meeting with local residents and organisations.

Following the unanimous approval of the proposal, the district's executive board allocated €15,000 for a one-year pilot project. Alle Kleuren Oost, a local organisation that supported the plan from the outset, has taken on the coordination and management of the hub.
