In 'Frieda Belinfante', you step into the life of an exceptional woman who broke boundaries as a musician and a person, in an intimate mix of musical meets opera.
Cellist, queer, resistance hero – and the first woman ever to conduct her own symphony orchestra. In this ‘one woman musical’, presented by The Dutch National Opera in collaboration with Stichting Boon en Ster, the life of Frieda Belinfante (1904–1995) takes center stage.
Her story moves between music and history, between personal choices and major events. As a musician, she was far ahead of her time; as a person, she had to hold her own in a world that was not yet ready for her.
"Frieda Belinfante is musical theater with flair, decisiveness, and speed."
