A Photography Exhibition on Identity and Connection
As part of WorldPride Amsterdam, Meervaart presents Unity, a photography exhibition focusing on identity, visibility, connection, and inclusion. In celebration of WorldPride, the city celebrates diversity and calls for attention to the equal rights and position of the LGBTQIA+ community. Under the theme UNITY, people, communities, and cultures from all over the world come together. Besides the festivities, WorldPride also offers space for art, culture, encounters, and reflection.
In this exhibition, photographers from the Meervaart Studio Foto Lab community showcase how themes like freedom, community, and self-expression are experienced. Through personal stories and diverse perspectives, Unity invites visitors to reflect on the past, present, and future of the LGBTQIA+ community. The exhibition demonstrates how art can contribute to greater understanding, connection, and social change.
Please note: The exhibition is accessible during performances. If you wish to visit outside of performance times, please contact the box office to make an appointment.
Alongside the exhibition, the performance Frieda Belinfante will also be shown at Meervaart during WorldPride. This intimate production, a unique mix of musical and opera, lets you step into the life of an exceptional woman who broke boundaries as both a musician and a person.
Cellist, queer, resistance hero – and the first woman to conduct her own symphony orchestra. This 'one-woman musical,' presented by The National Opera in collaboration with Stichting Boon en Ster, centers on the life of Frieda Belinfante (1904–1995). Her story moves between music and history, personal choices and major events. As a musician, she was far ahead of her time; as a person, she had to hold her own in a world that was not yet ready for her.
