GAY&A – A story from the past, with questions for today.
What if both your father and your sister come out? In this candid theatre performance, actress Linda van Pesch-van Ginneken looks back on her childhood in the 1980s: a time of silence, questionable hairstyles and a deadly AIDS virus. As her father and sister struggle with their identities, her mother tries to keep the family together. She, the youngest daughter, unknowingly organises a surprise party. But will her father come home?
With humour, vulnerability and sharp observations, Linda explores what family, love and identity mean. GAY&A reflects on events from 35 years ago, but how far have we really come since then? Can we talk about history, or does it still feel painfully current?
