All the American Dream’s values are shredded in John Waters’ tale of nonconformist individuals – misfits, thieves, drag queens, representatives of what would now be referred to as the LGBTQI+ movement. These were grotesque, ultra low-budget comedies in which over-the-top shock effects were used to promote liberating alternative laughter.

Things don’t get much trashier than in Pink Flamingos (a 4K restoration will be screened). Divine battles three anti-social types for the title of 'most disgusting dirtbag in Baltimore' – an eagerly accepted challenge culminating in the notorious final scene which still makes many shocked viewers leave the cinema.
