After a season of playing the role of Edna Turnblad in the hit musical Hairspray, Richard Groenendijk is back with a brand new solo show: ‘Luckily You Still Have Me’.
Groenendijk has become a fixture in Dutch theaters. His previous show, ‘Better for Everyone’, was praised by both press and public, and for this performance, he received the prestigious ‘Poelifinario’, the award for the best cabaret program of that season—a prize he received for the second time in his career.
According to the press, Groenendijk is a jack of all trades. In reviews, he is called coarse, subtle, engaging, sensitive, serious, and above all, hilarious. A man who delivers a bloodbath of cheerful insults but also always makes room for gentleness and valuable reflections. A mercilessly comical master entertainer at the peak of his abilities.
As a reviewer wrote about his previous show: “He truly lets all hell break loose and sets Carré on fire. Then laughter ripples through the hall, as we knew it from Toon Hermans.”
In ‘Luckily You Still Have Me’, Groenendijk once again takes the audience by the hand through his life. A colorful life where there is always a fire to be extinguished.
The organization 'Komt het Zien!' will provide an audio describer for the performance on May 24 at 20:00. This way, everyone with a visual impairment can also enjoy the show. During the performance, you can listen to the live audio description via wireless headphones. Guide dogs are welcome. Please contact the box office at 020-5249453 to arrange a suitable spot.
