A Pelo [a ˈpe.lo] - expression

1. Performed without protection or preparation, without much thought.
2. Naked; without disguise.
3. Colloq. without a saddle, bareback.
4. Fig. To face something unarmed, often impulsively.

In this raw, physical duet, which serves as a prequel to We play so hard it hurts, Fernando takes you through a darker period in his past. A time of over-sexualization, which often made him feel ugly and judged. The piece shows how queer desire becomes the conflict and the body its battlefield. Unashamedly intimate: it wants to be seen, felt, and endured.

Two bodies trapped. While one tries to escape, the other becomes the jailer.
What if the only way out is through each other?
A Pelo is not here to please you. It is here to possess you.
It pushes you to the limit with sweat and exposure, until nothing is left but skin, breath, and exhaustion.

About Fernando

Fernando Troya (1989) is a performing artist and director of A Pelo Productions. He is currently supported by ICK Amsterdam. He lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but was born in Madrid, Spain. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory for Dance in Madrid (2008) and obtained a bachelor's degree in Dance from the María de Ávila Conservatory (2022). However, his practice as a maker extends to the field of physical theater and performance.

In 2024, Fernando produced and presented We play so hard it hurts at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, with support from ICK Amsterdam, AFK, Norma Fonds, Free Willie, and Club Church, among others. He won the International Bursary Award, which allows the production to currently tour nationally and internationally.

Troya also produced independent projects, such as the series Reminiscente, a two-and-a-half-year research into Plato's theory of forms and the painter Francisco de Goya; Essential Rights, awarded the BNG Bank Dance Prize in the Netherlands; and Withering, a solo performance that was performed at various festivals around the world and won awards.
