Mitski returns to the Netherlands for her biggest shows in the country ever. The wildly popular indie pop artist will perform at AFAS Live for two consecutive evenings. These performances in the Amsterdam concert hall are the largest shows in the Netherlands to date for the American-Japanese artist, who is releasing her new album Nothing’s About to Happen to Me.
Amsterdam is one of the few cities Mitski will visit during the world tour following the release of her eighth album. Besides Amsterdam, she will also perform in cities such as Singapore, Sydney, Los Angeles, and Istanbul. The last time the 35-year-old singer-songwriter performed in the Netherlands was in 2024, playing two sold-out shows at the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam, which received rave reviews. Her unique performance style, which seeks musical variety and incorporates theatrical elements like lighting and choreography, creates a unique show every time. In Carré, she performed with a seven-piece band, which can also be heard on her new album.
Mitski is one of the biggest stars in contemporary indie pop, with astronomical listening figures. In her music, she combines styles like folk, pop, rock, and electronica with personal lyrics about themes such as anxiety, loneliness, vulnerability, and personal inadequacy. Her major breakthrough came in 2018 with her fifth album, Be the Cowboy, which was chosen as album of the year by music media worldwide. Her songs 'Nobody' and 'Washing Machine Heart' became TikTok hits. With over one and a half billion views on TikTok and more than two and a half million videos using her music as a soundtrack, she is one of the most popular artists on the social media platform. The fact that her emotional lyrics resonate with her loyal fans is evident from their own hashtag on TikTok: #Mitskiistherapy has more than fifty million views.
