A Proposition for a Fluid World

Podium Mozaïek, in collaboration with Black Silk, presents: BECOMING Fluid. An edition in the BECOMING series where experts, experienced individuals, artists, and performers propose a less rigid world: a fluid world where a loving farewell is said to binary gender norms.

During the evening, creators and thinkers will openly share how they break dominant patterns. The audience is invited to learn from their strategies and celebrate that fluidity is everywhere and has always been. In this safe space, we invite visitors to listen, participate, or feel freely and uninhibitedly. Expect a whirlwind of perspectives on fluid identities and be inspired by the stories of magical, gender-fluid beings. Everyone is welcome!

A Program Co-created

The program for BECOMING Fluid is curated by Black Silk in collaboration with Bete van Meeuwen and Carly Everaert. Van Meeuwen, known for her book 'Reunited with my Blackness' and her photo exhibition 'Body Politics', constantly strives as an author and photographer to bridge the gap between representation and subjects like gender, sexuality, and black joy. Carly Everaert is a scenographer and teacher-researcher at the Academy for Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam. Their work moves between costume design, embodied pedagogy, and socially just (performing) arts practices, with a focus on disability justice, sustainability, and solidarity.

'BECOMING Fluid is an evening to practice fluidity – not just as an idea, but as an attitude. A space where bodies, stories, and identities can flow freely and power dynamics slowly melt away. We warmly invite everyone to explore and shape this less rigid world with us,' says Everaert.

Producer of BECOMING, Loulou Sjerps says: 'With BECOMING Fluid, we create a space to break the norm and entrenched ideas. The artists and speakers of this program consciously choose to share their stories and engage in a dialogue with the audience. Expect a fluid mix of depth, joy, radical care, and celebration.'

About BECOMING

BECOMING is a fluid bubble full of depth. Each edition is unique and offers a different queer perspective on identity and sexuality. The audience and artists immerse themselves together in intimacy, celebration, sensuality, dialogue, art, and glitter! At BECOMING, the motto is: more is better, vulnerability is strength, celebration is depth, and everyone is queer! BECOMING has been a phenomenon in Amsterdam since 2021 and has already been staged (17 times!) at venues like CC Amstel, Likeminds, Amsterdam Roots, and the Amsterdam City Archives.
