Different stories bring new insights. Do you feel like looking at themes within the LGBTQ+ community, which can sometimes be challenging, from a different perspective?
Then come to Queer Talks, a discussion evening for everyone in the community and for allies who want to think and listen with engagement. Using a book from LGBTQ+ literature (fiction and/or non-fiction) as a starting point, we will engage in conversation together. We will read passages, discuss propositions, and connect what we read to our own experiences. You do not need to have read the book beforehand to participate.
In the essay 'Nooit genoeg' (Never Enough), Sharvin Ramjan addresses themes surrounding boundaries and inclusivity. He discusses, among other things, the course of friendships, working within the seemingly inclusive cultural sector, community building, and self-development.
“Friendships that do not make space to discuss these intersections run the risk of reproducing dynamics of exclusion. We must therefore continuously push ourselves to learn from each other, instead of doing what the world asks of us: to be played off against each other when we feel uncomfortable, unpleasant, or undervalued.”
Ramjan offers a queer perspective on the heteronormative society. But where do we actually stand within the LGBTQ+ community? How diverse and inclusive are our friend groups? And do we stand up for people from other minority groups? The goal of the evening is not to find ready-made answers, but to create space for exchange. By listening, sharing, and reflecting together.
