What does freedom really mean?
The starting point is the true story of Judith's grandmother, who transported food and illegal correspondence for the resistance as a courier in Leeuwarden during the Second World War. Her story inspired the image of the woman on the bicycle in the Prinsentuin: a symbol of courage and freedom.
From this family story, Judith builds a bridge to the present. What does freedom mean today? How self-evident is it to be who you are? And how do societal developments relate to the lessons of the past?
The performance deliberately balances seriousness and levity: with humor, audience interaction, and self-relativism, an accessible performance with a clear social undertone is created. Fierce for Freedom is therefore both a commemorative performance and contemporary personal theater—with a laugh and a tear.
