Alleen maar lieve jongens
Fantasy World on the Rug
Zeno thinks it's perfectly normal to have two fathers. But when a classmate makes a comment about it, Zeno hits him. He refuses to go to school until he is normal. To find out what being normal is, his fathers play all sorts of roles. They dress up and even sing a song. This way, Zeno and his parents discover that being yourself is completely okay.
"I have a soft spot for stories about outsiders," says director Loek de Bakker. "I often feel like an outsider myself. In Only Sweet Boys, both Zeno and his fathers struggle with being different. But a normal family doesn't exist, and a normal child doesn't exist. Shouldn't we just throw the word 'normal' overboard? That would create so much space and freedom."
Alleen maar lieve jongens was awarded as one of the best youth theater performances of 2025. Actor Piet Kooij, who plays Zeno, won the award for the best stage performance.
