This exhibition by Ernst Coppejans, in collaboration with the Open Mind foundation, reflects on the experiences of the first lesbian women, gay men, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people who dared to be open about their orientation.
Thanks to this generation (70+) who brought about gay emancipation, the current LGBTIQA+ community enjoys a freedom that is far from self-evident and must be actively maintained.
Ernst Coppejans portrays the personal, inspiring, and sometimes shocking—but also especially beautiful and intimate—stories of these 'pink elders' with both Dutch and migration backgrounds.
