In celebration of the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival, the Social Dance Club will host the ‘Whacking Experience’.

Whacking is a dance style that originated in the 1970s in the underground – black and Latino – gay clubs of Los Angeles. Society’s pressures on this community created a place in the clubs for them to escape from everyday discrimination. Here they felt a limitless sense of freedom. On the disco music of that time you see the dancers move very expressively. Whacking is characterized by many arm movements, poses, groovy moves, theatricality and the expression of your emotions. These emotions are in connection with the music and yourself, as well as with the people around you. Whacking is a social dance.

Expect to learn the history of whacking, the basic elements, the community vibes and of course the feels of a Wednesday Party! And a party is nothing without a DJ. So expect some amazing tunes by iGO!

Accessibility

The dance studio is on the second floor, an elevator is available. There is a small staircase downwards to get into the studio. Please contact the organizer via email if you have a question about it and hopefully we can find a solution together.
