We've rounded up the must-see LGBTQ+ films heading to Pathé and other cinemas, so you can mark your calendars and plan your movie nights. Here's what to look forward to.

Blue Moon

Release Date: January 15, 2026 — View on Pathé

Director Richard Linklater and actor Ethan Hawke, the iconic duo behind the Before trilogy, reunite for this poignant biopic. Hawke stars as Lorenz "Larry" Hart, the brilliant but troubled lyricist of the legendary Rodgers and Hart songwriting team. The film delves into Hart's life as a closeted gay man in the early 20th century, exploring his alcoholism, his creative genius, and his complex, often painful relationship with his professional partner, Richard Rodgers. It's a look at the hidden history behind timeless songs like "My Funny Valentine" and "The Lady Is a Tramp."

The History of Sound

Release Date: February 26, 2026 — View on Pathé

Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers) and Josh O'Connor (God's Own Country, Challengers) star as two men who travel across the American landscape during World War I. Their mission is to record the lives and music of their countrymen, but along the way, they find themselves falling deeply and irrevocably in love. Directed by Oliver Hermanus, this romantic drama promises stunning performances and a heart-wrenching story of love against the backdrop of a changing world.

Special Screening: Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam will host a special preview screening as part of its Roze Filmdagen Monthly Special on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Pillion

Release Date: March 26, 2026 — View on Pathé

Ready for something completely different? Billed as a "fetish rom-com," Pillion is set to be a wild ride. The film stars Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley from Harry Potter, all grown up) as Colin, a quiet man whose life is turned upside down when he's drawn into a community of kinky, queer bikers by their charismatic leader, played by Alexander Skarsgård. This film promises to be a unique, funny, and daring exploration of community and self-discovery in the leather scene.

Skiff

Release Date: March 26, 2026 — View on Pathé

A homegrown Benelux production, this Belgian-Dutch coming-of-age story is one to watch. Skiff follows 15-year-old Malou during a tense summer rowing season. As she trains, she finds herself navigating the confusing waters of her own sexual identity when she develops feelings for her brother's new girlfriend. The film explores the intensity of first love and the complexities of a teenage love triangle with sensitivity and authenticity.

A Landmark Returns: Brokeback Mountain (20th Anniversary)

Release Date: February 12, 2026 — View on Pathé

It's hard to believe it's been two decades since Ang Lee's masterpiece changed the landscape of mainstream queer cinema forever. Starring the late Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, Brokeback Mountain returns to the big screen for its 20th anniversary. Whether you're seeing it for the first time or the tenth, this is a perfect opportunity to experience the powerful, heartbreaking story of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist in a cinema setting. This special re-release is part of Pathé's "Back to the Past" anniversary programming.

Community Movie Nights

Want to watch these films with the community? Here are some great recurring events:

  • Pathé Pride Night: Every first Thursday of the month, 14 Pathé cinemas across the Netherlands host a Pride Night. The event typically includes a welcome glass of prosecco and a pre-premiere screening of a new queer film. It's the perfect way to see these movies first and meet fellow film lovers.
  • Roze Filmdagen at Ketelhuis: Amsterdam's Het Ketelhuis regularly partners with Roze Filmdagen for monthly screenings of essential queer cinema. Keep an eye on their schedule for special events.
  • Also at Ketelhuis: Don't miss their screening of another queer masterpiece, Moonlight, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
