In a move that has sent social media into a frenzy, Robbie Williams has dropped a brand new album, BRITPOP, completely out of the blue. The record, released via Columbia Records, is a nostalgic love letter to the mid-90s music scene that defined a generation and launched his incredible solo career.
For many in our community, Robbie has been a constant presence, from his cheeky Take That days to his stadium-filling solo anthems. This new album feels like a deeply personal project, with Robbie himself explaining it's the record he wishes he'd made right after leaving the boyband in 1995.
"I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995," Williams said in a statement. "It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British music... It’s raw, there are more guitars and it’s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual."
Star-Studded Collaborations and 90s Nostalgia
Robbie hasn't come alone on this journey back in time. BRITPOP is packed with some seriously impressive guest appearances, including:
- Chris Martin of Coldplay
- Gaz Coombes from Supergrass
- Black Sabbath's legendary guitarist Tony Iommi
- And in a full-circle moment, his former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow
The album's artwork is a direct nod to his past, featuring a painted reinterpretation of his iconic red tracksuit look from his legendary 1995 Glastonbury performance—a moment that cemented his status as a solo star to watch.
