The second edition of Kunstmarkt Haarlem, an art market dedicated to artists outside the mainstream gallery system, will take place on November 7 and 8, 2026. The event will be held at De Greiner, a monumental building in Haarlem, and aims to provide a platform for what organizers call “the counter-narrative.”
The market's mission is to give visibility to “marginalized, activist, radical, and free voices.” It positions itself as a space for community-driven art, created by and for those on the “frayed edges” of the established art world. With a specific desire to be a queer and activistic event, the organizers encourage artists from the LGBTQ+ community and those whose work carries a social or political message to get involved.
In a clear stance on current art trends, the market will only feature “human-made art,” explicitly stating that AI-generated work is not permitted. This policy underscores a focus on personal expression and direct connection between the artist and the audience.
For visitors, the event offers a chance to discover original and affordable art and to meet the creators in person. Beyond the market stalls, the weekend will include a live painting session with artist Loïs, where visitors can participate, and an opportunity to create collages for a 'Kunst-Zine'. The market also coincides with the annual Kunstlijn route, allowing attendees to visit other open studios within the De Greiner building.

While the official submission period has not yet opened, artists who feel their work aligns with the market's ethos are encouraged to sign up for an interest list on the official website. They will then receive a notification when the curation round begins.
